The International Kickboxing Tournament took place in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk for the first time. The Tournament gathered world-class athletes in one ring.
Spectacular wrestles for championship titles, ranking competitions, as well as women’s full contact fights with the participation of female athletes from Russia and Norway, took place within the framework of this event.
As a result of a challenging fight, Maxim Chernenko from Vladivostok won back the Champion of Asia title from Cho Gang Min, a Korean athlete. Dmitry Vasinev from Nizhny Novgorod won the Champion of Russia title over Igor Darmeshkin from Stavropol. Astemir Borsov, the athlete from Adygea, and Luca Cecchetti from Italy, the reigning two-time champion, met in a hard battle for the World Champion title. The Russian athlete won the victory.
Sakhalin audience watched the ranking fight of Igor Litvintsev, the only Sakhalin resident who participated in the Tournament, with special excitement. The athlete took part in the international fight for the first time and he won. His rival was Ruslan Badaev, the athlete from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Anton Zaitsev, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Sakhalin Region, noted that the Tournament is a historic and remarkable event for the entire region because for the first time Sakhalin hosted such high-profile sports event in its territory.
