East Mining Company won the Russian National Award 'Exporter of the Year' in the Far Eastern Federal District. The Company ranked 2nd in the nomination Industrial Exporter of the Year in the category Large Business.
At the award ceremony, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Sakhalin Oblast Alexei Butukhanov presented the representative of the East Mining Company with a diploma and a badge of honour of the Russian National Exporter of the Year award for success in goods exporting in 2019.
"The contest is held annually within the framework of the national project "International cooperation and export". We are very proud of this contest and it is especially pleasant that this year the East Mining Company took the second place in the category Industrial Exporter of the Year. It is important to note that during these difficult times such a high-tech company as EMCO shows not only good dynamics of coal mining volumes, but also conquers new foreign markets," said Alexey Butukhanov.
From January to December last year, the EMCO shipped 8.8 million tons of coal through the Coal Sea Port of Shakhtersk, which is 17% more than the volume handled in the same period in 2018. Thanks to the annual increase in coal mining and shipment, the Company maintains its position as one of the key exporters to the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. The key consumers are China and South Korea. The Company is planning to enter the markets of India and other countries of Southeast Asia in the future.
"The quality of mined coal and a well-developed logistics system through the company's main asset - the Coal Sea Port of Shakhtersk, allow us to develop export activities in the region and represent the Sakhalin Oblast as one of the key suppliers of coal on foreign sites," commented the East Mining Company.
With the growth of coal transshipment through the port of Shakhtersk, the structure of the foreign trade turnover of the Sakhalin Oblast has also changed, one of the key places in it now belongs to the export of solid fuel. In 2019 EMCO accounted for more than 70% of the total volume of coal exported in the region.
The East Mining Company was established in 2013 and now is a leading producer of thermal coal marks mined on Sakhalin. It is one of the ten largest companies in the Russian coal industry in terms of product sales for 2019. EMCO operates in line with the principle of the full production cycle, from extraction to shipment of products. The key industrial assets in the Sakhalin Oblast are the Solntsevsky Coal Mine in the Uglegorsky District and the Coal Sea Port of Shakhtersk, which has a free port status. EMCO is implementing a project for construction of the longest main coal conveyor in the Russian Federation. It has over 300 million tonnes of coal reserve on Sakhalin approved by the state register of national resources, as well as discovered reserves of over 100 million tonnes in the Magadan Region.
