The Port of Shakhtersk in 2013 Processed over 1.2 Million Tons of Coal

The shipped coal was mined at Udarnovskaya mine and at Solntsevsky coal mine. It was exported to Japan, Korea, and China.
Achievement of high results was possible due to the modernization of loading equipment and introduction of new technologies for loading vessels. Thus, in 2012 a new generation loading machine processing up to 2 thousand tons of coal per hour was installed in the port. In 2013, several new vessels - a self-propelled barge with a carrying capacity of 1.7 thousand tons and two dry-cargo vessels of ice class with deadweight of up to 3.5 thousand tons were added to the port fleet. In addition, the company acquired grabs (loading buckets) with a capacity of 11 and 14 cubic meters. This has several times expanded the ability of the port to ship coal. The coal storage yard has been increased - now it is able to accumulate up to 300 thousand tons.

In 2012-2013 East Mining Company invested about 700 million rubles of own funds to modernize the Port of Shakhtersk.
It allowed accepting heavy-duty vessels with deadweight up to 55 thousand tons in 2013. The Port of Shakhtersk once again became a kind of pioneer: In 2012, for the first time in the history of Sakhalin, dry-cargo vessels with the deadweight of 35-40 thousand tons were started to be successfully held.
The port continues implementation of the regional investment project for the technical re-equipment of the coal loading complex started in 2012. This is an example of an effective public-private partnership. About 600 million rubles of federal funds were invested in the modernization of the berthing facilities. The same amount was invested by a new owner.
In 2013, the expert group of McKinsey, Royal Haskoning, RPM companies - leading experts in logistics of sea ports, development of coal strip mines, and creation of the largest investment projects in the field of construction and organization of the port economy had been working in the port.

As Ko noted, that was one of the stages of preparation to construction of Sakhalin coal terminal which presentation was held in December 2011 in Khabarovsk.
