According to the analytical data of Morcentr-TEK JSC, the Coal Sea Port of Shakhtersk of East Mining Company, according to the results of work in January - July this year, rose immediately by 10 positions in the rating of Russian seaports that handled the largest volume of dry cargo, and for the first time took in this list the 6th place. Last year in the same period it was in 16th place.
From January to July this year, the port of Shakhtersk shipped 4.73 million tons of coal, which is almost 40% more than the volume handled during the same period last year.
Due to the increase in port capacity, coal shipments increase annually. Implementation of a large-scale investment program for the technical re-equipment of the onshore and offshore facilities of the enterprise makes it possible to ensure volume growth. The total amount of the funds invested by EMCO in port development projects has already amounted to about RUB 4 billion.
Today, the main infrastructure of the port is spacious storage areas, a modern coastal transshipment complex with a loading capacity of 10 thousand tons per hour, its own fleet of 29 ships with a total deadweight of 80 thousand tons and 2 floating transshipment complexes with a total loading speed of more than 6 thousand tons per hour. The port implemented advanced environmental solutions, established constant environmental monitoring, and arranged the quality control of exported coal at a high level.
Since this year, a permanent checkpoint for sea vessels across the state border has been operating on the territory of the port.
In total, the volume of coal shipment at the port of Shakhtersk increased from 1.2 million tons in 2013 to 7.5 million tons in 2018. At the end of 2019, this figure will be 10 million tons. With the growth of coal transshipment through the port of Shakhtersk, the structure of the foreign trade turnover of Sakhalin Region has also changed: coal export now occupies the second place in it.
