Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, May 10 - Sakhalin hosted the regional eSports championship MISSION: VICTORY, dedicated to the celebration of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. Players from almost 70 teams fought in the popular online multiplayer games Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2. The event was organized by East Mining Company with the support of the Sakhalin and Khabarovsk branches of Russian eSports Federation. The final of the tournament, which determined the winners in two disciplines, was held on May 9. The winners in Dota 2 were members of Cyber Arena Solnce. The runner-up was GOAT team. The first line in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was taken by JapaneseSTORM. Last Chance placed second.
“eSports is becoming more and more popular in the modern digital world. It reveals the entire set of athletic, strong-willed and team spirit qualities. And taking into account the peculiarities of the current time, we decided that such a championship would be interesting for young people of Sakhalin region. And we were not mistaken. It gathered almost 70 teams," said Andrey Motovilov, EMCO Deputy CEO for communications.
According to the Chairman of the Khabarovsk regional branch of All-Russian public organization Russian eSports Federation Mikhail Repka, who was in charge of the technical organization, a number of teams initially stood out with their skill level. "From the very beginning, it was obvious that the teams that ended up as winners have more experienced players, they are the tournament favorites," said Repka.
In general, the organizers highlighted the good training of island athletes and the fans’ great interest in a sport new for many people.
Egor Ivasiro, the captain of one of the winning teams JapaneseSTORM, confirmed that his team was heading to victory with confidence. Before that, they had been training for a long time and took participation in the championship seriously.
Dmitry Davydov, the leader of team Cyber Arena Solnce that took the first place in Dota 2, also noted the high level of his team. Even though the participants were in different places of the region - Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Korsakov, Uglegorsk, Poronaisk – and they had only cyberspace in common, they managed to show well-coordinated teamwork and win the contest.
We recall that the regional online eSports championship MISSION: VICTORY, dedicated to the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Great Victory, was held in Sakhalin region from May 4 to May 9. The event brought together more than 350 Sakhalin eSports players. Two tournaments were held as part of the event. The first one - Battle for Shakhtersk - was held on May 4 - 5 among the participating teams of Uglegorsk district. In the second tournament – Battle for Sakhalin - teams from all over Sakhalin region could take part. The total prize fund was 150 000 rubles.
