Ice Fishing Championship was held in Uglegorsk district. Participants included 200 people.
The Ice Fishing Championship has become one of the biggest events in Uglegorsk district since the beginning of the year. Uglegorsk Fisherman local community initiated it. This was corroborated by East Mining Company and the district administration.
The competition took place in a picturesque place on lake Imadra. 38 teams participated. They represented Tomarinsky and Uglegorsk districts, as well as the island capital, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The number of teams has more than doubled since last year.
Each team had its own square for fishing. A festive accompaniment was created for competing fishermen and their fans: music stage and hot tea with sweets from the organizers. Tents were set up for everyone who wanted to get warm.
The main stage of the championship is the team one. It lasted three hours and brought forth three winners. The contest was won by team Fishermen from Uglegorsk. Its members caught almost a third of the total catch of all participating teams. At the Pike’s Behest from Krasnogorsk finished second. The third place was taken by BCM from Boshnyakovo. All winners were awarded with cups, medals and diplomas confirming their fishing skills. All participants of the winning teams also got valuable gifts from East Mining Company.
The organizers of the competition introduced a number of additional nominations. Diplomas were awarded to the Most Skilled Participant – 71-year-old Mikhail Shotorny from the village of Parusnoye and the Youngest Participant - 7-year-old Roman Khizhkov. And by the way, Roman’s team Rybachok won in the category "For the will to win". They also selected the winners in the "First hole" and the "First fish" categories. Their recipients were Uglegorsk residents: Alexander Kozhevnikov and Eugeny Vershinin.
Alexander Kukhar, a resident of the village of Boshnyakovo, became the grand champion of the II Open Ice Fishing Tournament of Uglegorsky district. He was the one who won EMCO grand prize – snowmobile in individual championship.
- My secret is in constant training, - said the winner. – I have been fond of fishing since I was a kid. And in bad weather, I do not put a fish rod away – I train in front of a computer.
Assistance in implementing major socially significant events for Uglegorsk district is one of EMCO most high-priority areas. The company noted that the Ice Fishing Tournament is becoming traditional, and every year its popularity and number of participants is growing, attracting fishermen and fans from various districts of the Sakhalin region.
