Generation of electricity at plants using hard coal was also noticeably increased: in the previous year, 124 billion kWh were produced at such TPPs, which is 8 billion more than in 2012. Experts explain the record indicators of coal-fired power plants due to significant improvement of technologies, as well as a decrease in electricity generation at nuclear power plants.
At the same time, the share of power plants using natural gas fell by 10 billion kWh to 66 billion kWh. As experts explain, this is because the generation of electricity at gas-fired power plants is more expensive than on coal-fired power plants.
